Guidelines for T.R.C.C. Staff
- Primary responsibilities of counselors: To serve as an example, leader, and friend of the campers that are assigned to his/her care, as well as all other campers.
- This demands your total attention and most of your time during the week(s) you serve as counselor
- All subjective matters will be dealt with in view of this responsibility
- Counselors will practice solid Christian principles in relating to and leading the campers
- There will be no bodily punishment/discipline practiced
- There will be no dating between counselors and campers
- There will be no questionable behavior allowed between counselors and campers, e.g. lap sitting, excessive touching.
- Avoid forming cliques between counselors and campers in the respective cabins
- Organize and/or lead a devotional that is age appropriate, each night in the cabin.
- Be open to respective needs of campers, e.g. some campers may be introverts while others may be extroverts, some may be physically unable to participate while others may be active.
- At least one counselor must be with each cabin at all times. Arrangements must be made with the Acting Director for relief counselors.
- Dating relationships between counselors and staff members must be limited to off duty times only. Public displays of affection (PDA) will not be tolerated during camp.
- All counselors should be in their cabins with the campers no later than one hour after lights out for the campers.
- Counselors must check with the Acting Director before leaving the camp grounds, e.g. taking a walk, driving to town, etc
- All Counselors are directly responsible to the Acting Director. Any problems, complaints, schedule changes, etc. must be referred to him.
- Counselors are expected to set an example in dress, habits, language, and camp spirit. The use of alcohol, tobacco products, and illegal drugs are strictly prohibited. The use and/ or abuse of such substances should also not be part of your habits outside of camp as well.
- All Counselors are expected to attend a weekend orientation prior to the start of camp. Any counselors that have a reason for not attending must get permission from the counselor recruiter to miss.
- There will be no weekend stays at Camp Bethel. Between weeks all counselors are expected to return home or arrange to stay with someone over the weekend.
- All counselors and staff are expected to display a cooperative spirit, enthusiasm, and spiritual focus throughout the camp. Respect for those in authority positions and for other staff must be exhibited.
